Environmental Educator Training for Adults

Every autumn the Education Department sponsors a training program designed to prepare new and returning educators to teach and deliver outdoor education at all of its program sites.

The training breaks down into two parts.  The first consists of a series of weekly seminar events, running from mid-September to mid-November.  These are usually scheduled on Tuesdays from 9-12 pm, and take place at various locations in the region of the Santa Monica Mountains.

The second consists of a number of school-program observations and co-leads.  These are scheduled by the trainees themselves as their availability coincides with our program calendar.  Once trained and certified, educators are paid an hourly rate for the education programs they deliver.

While a degree in Environmental Studies, or a related field, is especially useful, people with other backgrounds make excellent environmental educators as well.

If you have a genuine interest in ecology and like working with young people; if you enjoy being outside interpreting nature and wish to be part of a community of life-long learners, then think about joining us in the fall.

If you wish to receive the Autumn 2010 Educator Training Schedule when it becomes available in September, please send your contact information to the Education Supervisor at rcdsmm.edu@gmail.com.
